Welcome to the Data Centre Glossary of Terms

–noun,plural-ries.

1. a list of terms in a special subject, field, or area of usage, with accompanying definitions.
2. such a list at the back of a book, explaining or defining difficult or unusual words and expressions used in the text.

This glossary of data centre terms has been created in order to establish common terminology for data centres. It will be moderated by the British Computer Society’s (BCS) Data Centre Specialist Group (DCSG) and by The Green Grid EMEA Technical Working Group (TWG).

How does it work?

The glossary is in a Wiki format. You are invited to contribute by adding new terms or editing detail on the existing list of terms. Nominated members of The Green Grid and BCS DCSG will review and moderate changes.

In order to contribute members will first have to register with Foswiki.

How to edit an existing term:

1. Click on the term you wish to edit from the list below i.e. '1000BASET'
2. The term page will load i.e. http://www.dcglossary.com/foswiki/Glossary/1000BASET
3. Click 'edit' button in top right
4. Edit the term text and click 'save'
5. To return to the Glossary home page click 'Glossary' in the left hand menu

How to add a new term:

1. Click 'New Glossary Term' in the left hand menu
2. Enter the term in the 'Topic name' box
3. The 'Parent topic' should be 'WebHome'
4. Click 'Create this topic'
5. Enter the definition and click 'Save'
6. To return to the home page click 'Glossary' in the left hand menu
